Comprehensive Refit Renews Warlock
Following a year of hard work off Angola, theanchor-handling tug Warlock returned to Europe earlier this year to work inthe North Sea on behalf of Delft based Allseas Engineering BV. Owned by BarryTowage & offshore SA of Madeira, Warlock assisted Allseas 125m shallowwater pipelay barge Tog Mor on the GDF project.
Following this, the 35m ASD tug was booked into the Harlingen yard of Shipdock BV in the Netherlands for a comprehensive refit leading to the special class survey.
The scope of works included an overhaul of the azimuth thrusters by Wartsila Propulsion Netherlands BV in their Drunen workshop. Also overhauled were the two Wartsila 12V22MD main diesel engines, which generate 1,950 kW each at 1,000 rpm to give Warlock a bollard pull of 61.5 tons. Shaft line bearings were overhauled and given new alignments whilst the two 125 kW DAF/Reliance generators and an emergency generator were also overhauled. The cooling system, electrical system, hydraulic winches and all pumps were overhauled and a new oily water separator installed.
Also undertaken during the three-month refit plate renewal, hull and deck blasting and painting, the installation of a new bridge window and carpet plus a variety of carpentry jobs in the cabins.
The comprehensive works not only led to Warlock passing its RINA special class survey with ease but also effectively extended the working life of the 1987 built vessel.
Warlock’s superintendent master Jan de Ruiter was pleased with the result, saying, ‘I was on board Warlock during its last seven weeks in drydock and saw the works being done. They were all done well and the vessel is now in a very good technical state. This is a very capable vessel and I am sure it will work safely and successfully for many years after this drydocking.’
