Kongsberg enhances OSCV mooring capabilities

The new system integrates a purpose-built anchor handling winch, shark jaws and stern rollers into OSCVs at the newbuild stage, enabling these vessels to undertake the pre-lay of mooring lines.

“There will be a lack of vessels with subsea crane and sufficient deck area suited to support the planned high volume of both large anchors and mooring lines in the years to come,” said Runar Hjele, sales director, Offshore Construction & Support Kongsberg Maritime.

“With the addition of this system, OSCVs become a more attractive and efficient solution, especially when there is a shortage of specialised mooring installation vessels.”

Key benefits of the system include an extended operational window, cost efficiency for field developers and enhanced safety and efficiency through over-stern mooring line deployment.

The versatile solution also allows for flexible installation, with winches that can be either permanently installed or portable, while shark jaws and stern rollers are permanently fitted.

This innovation positions OSCVs to handle both anchor installation and pre-lay mooring lines (chain and fibre rope) without compromising their construction capabilities, offering a safer, more efficient alternative to traditional methods.
