New contract signed for subsea survey

Part of the Marnavi Group, one of Italy’s major shipowners operating in the offshore sector, NextGeo was set up in 2014 to offer consulting and engineering design support services, a lot of it in the marine geophysics domain.

It has signed a contract with Dutch transmission system operator TenneT, which is working on developing a new generation of HVDC grid connections to integrate 2GW of offshore wind electricity into the European grid by 2031.

Part of the activities will be to carry out a ‘Marine Route Survey’, which NextGeo calls ’a critical investigation required for the proper design of cable connections that will enable the Doordewind wind area to deliver renewable energy generated at sea to the onshore grid’.

The work will be carried out over an area of 21,000 hectares.

“Securing projects of this scale highlights the effectiveness of NextGeo’s commercial strategy, which enables us to offer solutions tailored to highly challenging projects during the bidding phase,” said NextGeo project director Gianluca Iacomino. “Moreover, this contract contributes to the consistent growth of our backlog, confirming the validity of NextGeo’s business model and our development goals.”

NextGeo has has access to parent company Marnavi’s fleet of 14 offshore vessels as well as its inventory of survey equipment. 

Its specialised services include Surface & Subsea Positioning; Pre-Lay, As-Laid, As-Installed & As-Built Surveys; Route/Site Preparation & Clearance, PLGR & Mattressing; UXO Identification & Clearance; Touch-Down Monitoring and Underwater Mining Assistance & Monitoring.
