Alliance sets up to build underwater vehicle

The remotely operated vessel is being built with an alliance of Norwegian firms Østensjø Rederi, a provider of offshore, towage and accommodation services; DeepOcean, a subsea services firm; and Solstad, a shipping firm.

The vessel has been designed by Salt Ship Design and will run on a hybrid electric-diesel propulsion system that also allows up to 30 days’ remote operation and autonomy at sea.

Its underwater inspection technology includes smaller remotely operated vehicles that can reach depths of 1,500 metres.

The vessel is scheduled to be operational in 2025.
