Creating new standards in maritime autonomy

The partnership aims to combine expertise in autonomous vessels and maritime certification to support the commercial rollout of maritime autonomy.

In addition, it will focus on advancing technical standards, regulatory guidance and offshore compliance pathways for autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) operating across international markets.

Keeping pace

The companies said the agreement aims to help regulators and operators keep pace with rapid innovation while maintaining high standards of vessel safety, operational reliability and security at sea.

Under the partnership, Saronic will also pursue classification activities with LR to ensure its ASVs meet recognised commercial and naval performance standards.

LR said the partnership represents its first collaboration with a maritime autonomy company delivering ocean-faring autonomous vessels at scale. The organisation will support verification and certification activities while helping define classification pathways for the emerging sector.
