New CSOV series construction begins

The vessel will be the lead unit in a four-ship series of construction commissioning service operation vessels (C-CSOVs) commissioned by Schoeller Holdings.

Under the project structure, Columbia Shipmanagement will provide technical management for the fleet, while Deutsche Offshore Schifffahrt will serve as developer, operator and commercial manager.

The 96.25 metre long vessels, each with a beam of 20 metres and accommodating up to 95 technicians will be constructed to identical specifications. Delivery of the first ship is scheduled for May 2027, with the remaining vessels following at three-month intervals.

The design, developed by Salt Ship Design, focuses on flexibility across offshore energy operations. A modular configuration enables the vessels to support the full lifecycle of offshore projects, including construction, commissioning and long-term maintenance activities.

Key technical features include a gangway system designed with one of the industry’s largest operational envelopes, allowing horizontal access to platforms positioned between 12 and 30 metres above the waterline. The vessels will also incorporate dynamic positioning systems, a HiPAP hydroacoustic positioning system and a helicopter deck capable of handling aircraft up to 12.4 tonnes.

Operational capability is further enhanced through a low freeboard, modular railings, and equipment supporting remotely operated vehicle deployment. The ships will feature a removable daughter craft system and an 800 sqm unobstructed working deck. A reconfigurable main crane can switch within 48 hours between a 50-tonne active heave compensated configuration and a 10-tonne 3D motion-compensated mode.
