Svitzer continues to decarbonise its towing fleet

The new towing vessels form part of Svitzer’s global fleet renewal strategy, which supports its decarbonisation goals.

“This order enables us to continue renewing our fleet to deliver on our customers’ needs and decarbonisation targets,” said Kasper Karlsen, chief operating officer at Svitzer.

“The TRAnsverse tug will undoubtedly be our preferred design going forward, allowing us to improve operational capabilities and fuel efficiency to the benefit of our customers and the environment.”

Cutting-edge design

The TRAnsverse tug is a cutting-edge design developed in collaboration with naval architect Robert Allan Ltd.

Measuring 29 metres, the tugs offer bollard pulls of up to 80 tonnes and top speeds of 13 knots, with 8 knots in side-stepping mode.

The innovative omni-directional hull and propulsion system delivers enhanced steering and braking forces, enabling superior towing performance while reducing fuel consumption.

The vessels, designed for flexibility, can serve as fleet replacements or be deployed in growth projects. The agreement includes an option for four additional tugs of the same design.
