Port of Teignmouth celebrates highest tonnage levels in a decade
ABP’s Port of Teignmouth, Devon, UK has reported 2017 as a record-breaking year, which saw the port handle its highest tonnage of cargo since 2008.
The ten year tonnage-handling milestone of more than 450,000 tonnes made up of clay, animal feed and aggregates, was achieved thanks to ABP’s programme of continuous investment in port infrastructure and equipment.
Recently acquired state-of-the-art equipment has included a new Mantsinen crane, representing an £850,000 investment, which has brought ABP’s overall investment in Teignmouth up to more than a million pounds in 2017.
Other highlights in 2017, included a historic 4000 tonne shipment of clay in October, which was transported from Devon to Spain aboard the MV Pex. The shipment was made possible by the dredging campaign by Teignmouth Harbour Commission, which has enabled the port to welcome vessels carrying more than 4000 Cargo Tonnes for the first time in Teignmouth’s History.
