Netherland’s based global ship delivery and crewing company, Redwise Maritime Services, has delivered Greek passenger ferry ‘Thassos VII’ ferry to its new owners in Patagonia, Chile.
The trip took just a month to transport the ferry from the Piraeus harbour in Athens to Iquique in Chile via the Panama Canal.
But the vessel had to be adapted beforehand to enable the vessel to sail through the Mediterannean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean passage.
Being a passenger ferry used to only clocking up ten nautical miles per trip, the ferry had to be upgraded from limited coastal class to meet ICAS guideline for a longer voyage – particularly with regards to safety and firefighting equipment and loadline regulations.
Redwise worked closely with the underwriter to ensure safe delivery of the vessel both before and during the voyage. This proved to be time well spent because the ship did have to take shelter for four days off Tunisia to avoid gale force winds.
Redwise deals with the transportation of all forms of vessel, from small crewboats and tugs to large bulk carriers and FPSO’s. The company says it is capable of taking almost every type of vessel to sea and ensures safe and speedy delivery to any harbour in the world.
