The Seaward range of boats will be back on show at Seawork this year courtesy of new owner, The Boat Development Company, on stand B69.

Andrew Turner MP visited The Boat Development Co this week to discuss funding for exports

The Boat Development Company bought Seaward Marine back in March when its owners Alison and Barry Kimber decided to retire. It was a popular move which went down well in both the leisure and commercial sectors. The company currently has three craft in build and another undergoing a refit.

With a view to furthering its expansion, the Boat Development Company arranged a meeting with key members of the Isle of Wight marine industry and the Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, at its HQ in Cowes this week. It wants to discuss funding to support an export drive for local boatbuilders.

Mr Turner met with Mike Burnham and Chris Clayton, owners of The Boat Development Co, together with Barry and Alison Kimber, founders of the rugged Seaward commercial and leisure motorboat brand built at the Yard.

Paul Bertie, Chairman of Cowes Business Association, Craig Nutter, Chairman of the BMF Isle of Wight Committee, John Roberson, publisher of Cowes Yachting magazine, and Stuart Macintosh, the Cowes Harbour Master also contributed to discussions.

Mike Burnham managing director, Seaward, said: “There are a number of areas where Government initiatives can help us expand our export markets and we are already engaged in discussions with officials to seek support.”

Talking about their own plans for Seaward's expansion, Mr Burnham added: “We are delighted to have retained so many experienced Seaward employees who are already working on this new phase of developing the Seaward brand and range. We are optimistic that this will lead to expanding employment at the Seaward yard in Cowes.”

The company will have a revised range of commercial craft on show at Seawork 2013 from 25 to 27 June in Southampton and an example of the Seaward leisure range will again be on display at the PSP Southampton Boat Show in September.
