Shell commissions DeepOcean ROV services
DeepOcean, the Norwegian offshore services organisation with subsidiary concerns in Brazil, Holland, Mexico, Singapore and the UK, has been commissioned by Shell for provision of ROV-based survey services in the North Sea under a three-year contract plus options.
Ottar Maeland, the company’s Executive Vice-President, says work will entail introduction of a new-generation high-speed survey ROV, Superior, featuring speedier standards for acoustic and visual data caption and processing. It should significantly reduce overall operating costs in years to come, he claims.
The Shell contract follows the appointment of DeepOcean’s Aberdeen-based UK subsidiary for work as part of the inter-array cable installation scheme for the Bligh Bank Phase II wind farm project offshore Belgium. It involves various undertakings covering pre-lay surveys and grapnel runs as well as those affecting installation and trenching of 50 array cables.
