Kongsberg Maritime has secured a major contract to supply launch and recovery technology for Sea1 Offshore’s new offshore construction vessels.
The agreement covers eight advanced Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS) across four vessels, boosting subsea construction capability and strengthening operational performance in deep-water environments.

Advanced equipment
Each vessel will feature dual LARS units supported by telescopic A-frames, electrical umbilical winches and energy-efficient hydraulic power units, alongside an integrated control system optimised for offshore construction tasks and heavy-duty deck equipment.
Sea1 Offshore said the fully integrated design improves launch and recovery precision, particularly for ROVs used in subsea construction and inspection campaigns.
Andreas Kjøl, CCO of Sea1 Offshore, stated that the systems would deliver “market leading operability in harsh environment operations,” especially when paired with the vessels’ electric power and energy-storage systems.
With a 15-tonne safe working load and winch cable capacity of 4,500 metres, the LARS units provide robust performance for demanding offshore construction projects.
Environmental performance is also a key advantage. The inclusion of hydraulic power units with frequency control reduces emissions and energy consumption, without compromising operational capability.
