Superferry Launch Lifts Irish Sea Capacity
Stena Line has launched the longest ship ever to sail on the Irish Sea, the 211m superferry Stena Adventurer, on the Holyhead to Dublin route. The arrival of Stena Adventurer follows the launch of its sister ship Stena Britannica on the Harwich to Hook of Holland route in March for a combined investment of 177million.
Stena Line expects a return to profitability at the end of this year and defines a general growth trend in the freight market as one of the factors behind the launch of the new vessels. The Stena Adventurer will increase the freight capacity on the Dublin-Holyhead route by 70% while also boosting passenger capacity by 50% to 1,500.
The vessel boasts 3,400 lane metres of freight space and will operate in tandem with the HSS Stena Explorer to offer both freight customers and passengers increased flexibility and service on a strategically key link between the UK and Ireland.
