Sustainable plastic drainage solution
Georg Fischer Piping Systems has launched a paint-free, corrosion-free plastic drainage solution that is an eco-friendly alternative to metals.
Made entirely from a non-corroding polypropylene thermoplastic, SeaDrain White marine drainage pipe system for black and gray water drainage takes less CO2 to manufacture than a metal alternative. It is lighter in weight, lighter on maintenance requirements, lighter on installation time and labour, and lighter in lifetime system costs than competing metal systems, explainedGF Piping Systems.
“SeaDrain White is the first purpose-built thermoplastic piping system specifically engineered for marine drainage applications,” said Roberto Chiesa, global business development manager – marine. ” With applications from service lockers, open decks, balconies, class A0, and class A60 fire-protected decks, to customer-facing areas, you can see the difference throughout its lifetime versus metal.”
Minimal maintenance
SeaDrain White is engineered for a minimum of 25 years life compared to 5 to 10 years for metal alternatives. The bright white external colouring includes additives for UVg resistance against discoloration, meaning no external paint is required.
The product also reduces the risk of bacterial contamination of the ship, with factory tests over 100 psi (6 bar) conducted. The smooth inner surface of SeaDrain White is designed to eliminate encrustation and reduce downtime.
Quick installation
The push-fit and lock mechanism of the SeaDrain Fast-Lock jointing system is designed to make installation up to 5x faster than alternative metal solutions.
SeaDrain White is suitable for cruise ships, passenger ferries, and luxury yacht installations, both newbuild and retrofit.
