Tide and wave height measurement at Seawork

Vega first shared the Ohmex stand at Seawork 2008, when they announced the use of their radar sensor for tide height measurement at the Humber Bridge. Since then VEGA engineers in Germany have modified the instrument’s firmware to make it more specific for the measurement of tide height and wave height climates. As agents for the modified firmware version, Ohmex has made a suitable power supply for the PULS62 , integrated it as a sensor into their AIS TideMet system, TideM8 tide gauge and EDAS data collection software.

At a recent meeting in Lisbon, Trimble announced the release of its SPS852 Modular GNSS receiver and SPS552H add on heading sensor. Trimble have adopted a new distribution strategy where it supplies the dealer with a generic box which is held on their shelves until the customer orders a specific product version. The generic GPS box is then configured by the dealer to the customer’s specification. This approach will greatly reduce lead time and provides the customer with the facility for future receiver upgrades without returning the hardware. In addition to a host of new user features, the GNSS receiver includes version 6 of Trimble’s proprietary Maxwell technology algorithm, which delivers superior satellite tracking, faster measuring, optimal precision, and lower power usage.

The new Ohmex MIL spec SonarMite will also be on show at seawork 2010. The SonarMite ‘Survey on a stick’ system used by the US Army Divers has been released in a new MIL-spec version. The system features the familiar olive green military connectors, a ruggedized die cast aluminium casing, extended rechargeable battery life and updated PDA or Tablet PC software. A novel feature is that the lightweight 1g system box is now completely enclosed in hook and loop Velcro coating, allowing easy mounting and field installation under a variety of conditions.
