Busy times and full order books for Med Marine

Piraeus, Greece-based Nemeca Z Towage & Salvage Services is described as an “esteemed client” by Med Marine, which says delivery of the latest tug will take the owner’s fleet capacity along with its crew skill base to “another level ensuring a safe, continuous, all-encompassing and highest service quality to its customers”. Nemeca Z’s new addition, Dias Z, was delivered after a short delivery voyage lasting just three days through the Bosphorus.

The vessel is a Robert Allan Ltd RAmparts 2500W design of a standard escort-capable ASD tug configuration with a forward winch and the ability to tow over the stern via a towing hook aft. The vessel also meets fifi-1 requirements.

Basic specifications include a vessel length of 25.2m, breadth 12m and draught 5.75m with a bollard pull of 75 tons, speed 11kn and accommodation for seven persons.

Delivery and repeat order

Around the same time, Med Marine delivered another RAmparts 2500W multi-purpose ASD tug to Italian-based Scafi Società di Navigazione S.p.A. The vessel, Gea, will be deployed to the port of Rijeka, Croatia to support Scafi subsidiary Jadranski Pomorski Servis’s activities involving shiphandling, towing, mooring, pushing and firefighting.

Gea has similar specifications to Dias Z above but with a slightly lower bollard pull stated as 70 tons. Scafi Group itself operates more than 40 tugs through subsidiaries and JVs in Italy, Croatia, Greece and Morocco.

Just two weeks after announcing delivery of Gea, Med Marine reported that SVS Maritime, owned by Vernicos Scafi Group, had signed a contract for construction and delivery of another RAmparts 2500W (designated the MED-A2575 series by Med Marine) from its Eregli Shipyard with delivery of the 75-ton bollard pull tug scheduled for September 2024.
