World Hydrography Day

‘Our Seas and Waterways – Yet to be Charted and Explored’ is the theme chosen by the Monaco-based inter-governmental International Hydrographic Organization for this year’s UN-sponsored World Hydrography Day on 21 June.

Intended to raise general public awareness that much of the world’s seas, oceans and navigable waters have yet to be fully charted and explored against a background where there are higher resolution maps of the Moon and Mars than for many sectors of earthly seas and coastal regions, the event will be marked by a host of worldwide commemorative functions staged by hydrographic agencies on or around the given day. Among them is an official IHO reception in Monaco aboard the visiting Japan Coast Guard training vessel, Kojima, on 30 June to which Hydrographers of Member States or their representatives have been invited.
