Bulging order book for Goodchild Marine
Goodchild Marine of Burgh Castle, UK has signed contracts to build a number of pilot vessels and a passenger catamaran. This will secure the jobs of the current workforce and provide jobs for more local boat builders and technicians yet to be recruited.
The first of the orders is for Briggs Marine for three Goodchild ORC 17 metre Pilot boats working out of Liverpool Docks. Goodchild Marine secured the exclusive UK agency to build the innovative French ORC ‘beak bow’ design following an in-depth investigation into the most effective and fuel-efficient modern pilot boat designs. The first 2 vessels have been working hard in demanding conditions based in Ramsgate and Sheerness and have more than confirmed the exceptional sea-keeping and fuel efficiency of the design.
The second order is for a SB Lynx 16 metre Passenger Catamaran. Goodchild Marine designed the SB Lynx with Alicat Marine Design as a catamaran with good sea-keeping and fuel efficiency based around a well-proven windfarm design. The first SB Lynx was delivered in June 2015 to Northumberland Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority and has been working hard in her Fisheries Protection role in the North Sea.
The Third order is for a Goodchild ORC 13.6 metre Pilot boat for Estuary Services Limited to work alongside her larger sisters out of Ramsgate and Sheerness in the Southern North Sea. We are delighted that their owners are so pleased with their first two that they have decided to order another one.
For Goodchild Marine Services, this is an incredible show of courage and determination to extend the range and capacity, and to expand the company and its workforce in a very difficult financial climate.
Alan Goodchild reported. ”We are delighted that we are able to take on new work for both existing and new customers. We have a workforce second to none and these orders will allow us to add to that workforce for the long term. We look forward to building the new boats and to working with other builders in the area and we are, of course, always tendering for further work.“
