Key role for Bauer in Bay of Panama
A subsidiary of Bauer group in Germany is playing a key role in the construction of two artificial islands being created using millions of m3 of rock and sand off the densely populated coastline of Panama City.
These, the first man-made islands in Latin America, will be home to 138 luxury properties when completed. They will also be home to a new yacht marina, and will be linked to each other and to the mainland by two 160m long bridges. The first island currently under construction covers an area of 100,000m2.
Bauer Fundaciones Panamá SA, a subsidiary of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH, is carrying out the vibrocompaction works. Some 12,800 compaction points at an average depth of 15m have to be completed within just four months, by the end of October 2012. Bauer began work on the project in June 2012. At times four deep vibrators are being used simultaneously.
