Size matters for Italian ships
There is yet another order for very large cargo access equipment for a growing family of big ro-ro and container vessels.
Four more 45,000 dwt ships now being built at the STX Jinhae shipyard in Korea for Italian container shipping specialist Ignazio Messina & C SpA will be using apparatus from European manufacturer Cargotec. Each shipset will be fitted out with a suite of MacGregor ro-ro cargo access equipment.
This repeat order proves the point that size does matter, as it includes some of the largest stern quarter ramps manufactured. Measuring 49.9m long, these ramps have a driveway breadth of 27.8m at the ship end and 12.5m at the shore end. They can carry up to 350 tonnes.
Cargotec is also supplying each of these 240m vessels with a MacGregor stern door, plus rampway doors, ramp covers, division doors, power packs and electrical systems. The equipment will be delivered between the last quarter of 2013 and the second quarter of 2014.
