European simulator training heads east
A growing interest in simulator training is being seen in Southeast Asia, and European firms are making their mark in the region.
A Nautis maritime training simulator, developed by the Dutch firm VStep, will be used to provide realistic bridge team management simulation and training for deck officers, as well as steering practice for cadets at the Chemstar Nautical School in Bangkok.
The DNV certified Nautis system, says VStep, “provides an affordable and innovative alternative” covering a full range of requirements, from desktop trainers to full mission bridge simulators.
It’s not the only Asian investment in this technology. The International Maritime College (IMC), which is tied to the Kasetsart University Si Racha Campus in Thailand, has also installed a Nautis Simulator, including an instructor station.
Transas Marine also has a rising presence in the region. It’s recently installed a set of marine simulators for the BP2IP Tangerang Merchant Marine School in Jakarta, Indonesia. Implemented in cooperation with PT Multiintegra, the package includes a full mission tug handling simulator, part task Navigation Cubicle Bridge, cargo handling, GMDSS and ECDIS simulators.
