Another windfarm for the North Sea
E.ON is expanding its renewables business with the construction of a €1bn Amrumbank West windfarm in the North Sea, 37km northwest of the German island of Helgoland.
Amrumbank West will extend over 32km² and will feature 80 3.6MW turbines to give it a total capacity of 288MW, enough to power 300,000 houses.
Eckhardt Rümmler, CEO, E.ON Climate and Renewables, said: “Offshore wind is on the road to becoming a reliable and cost-effective source of electricity. Amrumbank West will help take us significantly closer to this goal.”
The windfarm will displace more than 740,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually and is due to be completed and enter into service in summer 2015.
E.ON will use the self-elevating turbine installation vessel MPI Discovery for construction, loading out of Cuxhaven.
