Marathon tow for Fairmount
Three tugs from Fairmount Marine have completed the marathon tow of one of the world’s largest FPSOs Petrojarl Knarr from the builder’s yard in South Korea to Haugesund in Norway.
The passage involved three of Fairmount’s four super-tugs Fairmount Sherpa, Fairmount Glacier and Fairmount Expedition. The entire voyage was undertaken under the command of Captain Kees de Graaff on board the lead tug Fairmount Sherpa.
The 61 day journey made stops at Singapore, Port Louis (Mauritius) and Las Palmas (Canary Islands) for bunkers and stores. For the final leg of the voyage the convoy sailed west of Ireland via Fair Isle to the eventual destination in Norway. Journey’s end offshore Haugesund was reached ahead of schedule.
The Petrojarl Knarr is 256m long and 48m wide with a deadweight of 135,000 tonnes. It is owned by Teekay Corporation, built by Samsung Heavy Industries and will be deployed in the Knarr oil and gas field offshore Norway.
