ECA strikes gold at environmental awards
The East Channel Association (ECA) has received a leading environmental award in recognition of its groundbreaking regional environmental monitoring work.
The ECA was formed in 2001 to research, analyse and promote marine aggregate dredging in the newly prospected Eastern English Channel. The first phase of development culminated in publication of the regional environmental assessment in 2003.The environmental monitoring programme that was subsequently developed to describe the effects of dredging in the region has been underway since 2005 and dredging began in the first licence area in 2006. In 2007 there were six licences granted, comprising nine dredging permission areas which produced approximately 1.7m tons of aggregate.
The awards are held annually by the Green Organisation, which is an independent group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting best practice and sustainable development around the world.
