€700 million earmarked for green e-methanol plant

The 26.8-hectare plant will be built in the Spanish municipality of Monfarracinos in Zamora province and will produce green e-methanol, a synthetic fuel that is produced from ’herbaceous biomass’.

It is the third project by the company in the region and will break ground in 2027.

“The project consists of the design, construction and operation of an integrated facility comprising a biomass unit, which will require 120kt/year of herbaceous biomass that cannot be used by livestock farmers, equivalent to €10 million/year; a biogenic CO₂ capture unit, which will transform a total of 200kt/year of CO₂, together with green hydrogen produced ad hoc, into 140,000 kt/year of green e methanol thanks to a synthesis plant for this fuel of renewable origin,” the company says.

“We are taking another step forward in our strategic vision: the production of green e-methanol, as well as its logistics and marketing,” said Reolum founding partner and CEO Yann Dumont. “We must remember that this is the ‘petrol of the future’, i.e. a basic industrial product.”

Reolum was founded in 2019 by Dumont and Fernando Muñoz.
