Vestdavit lands record order for Canadian Coast Guard

The Norwegian davit supplier will initially provide six FF-15000 davit systems, one for each vessel, with options for an additional ten units under a second contract with the Canadian shipbuilding group.

This follows last year’s order for RHIB davits for the Polar Icebreaker, also under construction for the Canadian Coast Guard.

Greater flexibility

The FF-15000 davit system is hydraulically operated and adapted from a larger FF-type davit. Its F-frame design allows for greater flexibility in handling various boat shapes and volumes, with a 15,000 kg safe working load (SWL) capacity.

This versatile, deck-mounted davit can operate in both single and dual-point configurations, handling a nine metre self-propelled barge, 7.5m RHIB and a 20-foot ISO container through adjustable lifting points.

Advanced features of the motion-compensated davit include shock absorbers, dual winches with independent constant tension and an anti-pendulation device for stability in rough sea conditions.

These ensure efficiency and safety for coastguard operations, including rescue missions and law enforcement.

The new multi-purpose vessels will operate year-round on Canada’s eastern and western seaboards, supporting critical services such as icebreaking, maritime search and rescue, scientific research and offshore fisheries patrols.
