Floodfighters calls for multi-layer approach to SAR

“We are trying to take Search and Rescue into the 21st Century rather than the human eyeball,” the director of the Professional Rescue Academy, Dave Lane, told delegates at a Seawork workshop today.

And the top layer of Lane’s multi-layer solution is man’s best friend – the dog, which Lane said can scent a human within up to 500 metres even when the wind was blowing.
