HarbourWatch keeps an eye on the tugs
A newly developed GSM based ship to shore monitoring and alarm system from Essex UK based P& S Automation Ltd is intended for use on board tugs and other workboats.
HarbourWatch is capable of monitoring critical on board systems including bilge water level, fire, intruder, hydrogen sulphide gas (or other gases) and battery voltage, sending SMS text messages through up to five different mobile numbers to alert duty holders when an alarm is triggered. Alternatively, the duty holder can invoke a remote spot check on a vessel’s status by sending a text message into the unit. Within a few minutes, the user will receive an easy to understand response. When the vessel is manned, HarbourWatch functions akin to a conventional alarm panel and, according to manufacturer P&S Automation, can be integrated with other onboard monitoring systems or expanded to create a total monitoring and control solution. Integration would be via a built in EtherNet port. EtherNet is rapidly becoming the standard network for system integration due to its ease of use and the wide availability of EtherNet enabled equipment.
Standard inputs include port and starboard battery, engine room or accommodation block fire detection, intruder, hydrogen sulphide gas leak, plus aft, midship and forward bilge.
When set to ‘ashore’ mode, the siren will operate for intruder alarms only, while the buzzer will sound for all events. If not reset and silenced, the siren will stop after 10 minutes and restart after one hour, while also issuing a new text message. When in ‘onboard’ mode, the buzzer will sound for all alarms except in the case of intruder detection.
HarbourWatch is housed in a robust IP65 steel enclosure and powered by a 24Vdc supply from the main batteries. A console mounted version is also available. Both feature touchscreen display to provide information and also to allow easy configuration changes of such as phone numbers and battery alarm levels.
