Hydro 2015
Developing sustainable hydrography in Africa and elsewhere is one of the principal themes of the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies 23rd Hydro conference at Cape Towns International Convention Centre from 23-25 November.
Organised and hosted by The Hydrographic Society of South Africa, one of the Federation’s eight member organisations, the combined conference and exhibition event is expected to attract strong international participation. Opening with a keynote address by Robert Van De Poll, Fugro’s Head of Global Law of the Sea activities, main conference proceedings will address a wide range of issues with nearly 20 key presentations on topics ranging from local African case studies and applications to wider global issues affecting data management, chart production, maritime boundaries, new technology and equipment and positioning for surface and sub-surface operations.
Also scheduled is a special Fugro presentation on the Dutch company’s continuing search for the ill-fated MH 370 aircraft in the southern Indian Ocean under the auspices of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. Search operations, which have thus far covered more than 23,000 square miles of seabed, are due to resume this October with the deployment of higher resolution sonar equipment.
Other agenda items include an exhibition of equipment and services featuring the wares of nearly 30 leading companies and organisations supported by practical workshops. Further details on the three-day event are at www.hydro2015.org.
