One of the largest floating docks in the Baltic Sea is being built at Poland’s Wulkan Shipyard, where two sections have now been launched by Norwegian offshore services company BOA.
The operation was carried out on behalf of charterer Trend Projekt, a Polish heavy transport and engineering specialist that supports shipyards, offshore projects and civil infrastructure schemes. Trend Projekt specialises in moving and launching oversized structures, including ship blocks, offshore modules and bridge components using barges, heavy-lift systems and marine transport solutions.
The first two dock sections, each measuring 82 metres by 47 metres, were launched using BOA’s semi-submersible barge Boabarge 36, which has dimensions of 124 metres by 31.5 metres by 8 metres and has a 3,600m2 deck.
The barge’s submerging capability of up to eight metres forward and 12 metres aft above deck enabled the controlled launch of the floating dock sections, says BOA.
The company is scheduled to launch the third and final section of the dock in August 2026. Once assembled, the structure is expected to rank among the largest floating docks in the Baltic region, increasing shipbuilding and repair capacity in Western Pomerania.
As well as supplying the semi-submersible barge, BOA said it provided engineering support and operational management throughout the launch programme.
