New collaboration for milestone GreenPort Congress conference

The forthcoming edition of the GreenPort Congress will mark a significant milestone as the event celebrates its 20th anniversary. Widely recognised as a leading forum for the international port community, GreenPort Congress provides a platform to explore sustainable environmental practices while addressing the complex balance between ecological stewardship and economic imperatives.

In a notable evolution of its format, the 2025 conference will be hosted by Transport Malta and held in partnership with the Shore to Ship Conference and the European Onshore Power Supply Association (EOPSA). Scheduled to take place at Boiler Wharf in Valletta Port from 15–17 October, the three-day event will offer delegates access to both GreenPort Congress sessions and Shore to Ship discussions—enabling a holistic exploration of the strategic, operational, and environmental challenges facing the maritime industry today.

Commenting on this strategic collaboration, Roland Teixeira, President of EOPSA, stated:
“I am proud to celebrate the partnership between Green Ports, Transport Malta, Shore to Ship, and EOPSA. Together, we are working to bring forward the best minds in the maritime and energy sectors, forging a collective commitment to decarbonising the maritime ecosystem.

This year, as we face an increasingly complex global geopolitical landscape, we will underscore the critical role of energy hubs as enablers of resilient, sustainable port infrastructure. These technologies are no longer optional—they are essential to future-proofing our energy systems and staying on a determined course toward full decarbonisation. Our cooperation stands as a testament to what is possible when innovation, shared purpose, and forward-looking leadership converge.

I look forward to the progress we will achieve together—and to spending inspiring and meaningful time with you all in beautiful Malta.”

The first day of the conference will be dedicated to GreenPort Congress content, featuring keynote presentations on ports’ influence on climate change and the importance of collaboration across the sector. The programme will include sessions addressing infrastructure development, alternative fuels, and strategies to strengthen the wider port ecosystem. The day will culminate in a high-level panel discussion entitled “Beyond 2050: Innovations for a Decarbonised Tomorrow”, followed by a gala dinner commemorating two decades of GreenPort Congress.

On the second day, the programme will feature two parallel conference streams. GreenPort Congress sessions will examine themes such as sustainable shoreline management, renewable energy integration, land reclamation, and pathways to responsible economic growth. These sessions will also feature presentations of the ESPO and EcoPorts environmental performance reports.

Concurrently, the Shore to Ship stream will offer insights into Transport Malta’s strategic vision, EOPSA’s leadership perspectives, and the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of Malta’s ports.

In the afternoon, delegates will be invited to participate in a combined panel on onshore power supply (OPS) and port electrification, followed by a joint networking reception.

The conference will conclude on 17 October with a guided tour of Valletta’s Grand Harbour and cruise port facilities, complemented by technical site visits and live demonstrations of innovative technologies.
