New £1m workboat for Aberdeen
Sea Herald, a new all purpose £1m workboat built by Macduff Shipyards has commenced operations with Aberdeen Harbour Board for whom it will carry out a variety of tasks from debris removal and bed levelling work to hydrographic surveys and occasional pilot duties.
Harbour Master and operations director Ray Shaw says the new 14m vessel will make an important contribution to harbour activities, ensuring that it remains one of the UK’s busiest and most efficient ports. Fully equipped with a multibeam hydrographic survey suite, it also features a deck crane together with twin 350hp engines providing a speed of 9.6 knots.
Commissioning of Sea Herald forms part of a wider Aberdeen Harbour Board redevelopment of its Commercial Quay East in a project costing an estimated £65m.
