New Hydrographer of Norway
Birte Noer Borrevik has been appointed Director of the Norwegian Mapping Authority’s Hydrographic Service which is based in Stavanger with a staff of 145 specialist personnel.
A graduate of Stavanger University with a BSc in Petroleum Technology, she has held a number of senior positions with BP and latterly as HSE and Operations Manager of Explora Petroleum AS, the leading oil and gas exploration company.
A division of the governmental Mapping Authority, the Service is responsible for preparing and updating nautical charts for all Norwegian marine and coastal as well as polar waters in addition to those around the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic. It also maintains operational responsibility for the Primar international nautical chart service as the supplier of official electronic charts on behalf of around 40 nations.
