Compacted Firefighting for Taichung Tugs

The new unit is rated for a maximum 1,600m3/hr@140mwg and is designed to transmit 800kW at 2,000rpm. It is fitted with a built-in hydraulic clutch and three-way solenoid operated valve for remote control, with manual override. The gearbox has DNV design approval and the complete FiFi I pump/ gearbox combination can be delivered in accordance with all marine class society rules. Fischcon’s new concept has been engineered to eliminate alignment procedures and the need for a second flexible coupling between the step-up gearbox and pump. Because the gearbox is close loop cooled directly from the discharge of the waterpump, no extra connections<$>are needed during shipyard installation.

The primary flexible coupling between the driving engine and the gearbox is normally a Centa CM type. Various pump configurations can be accommodated to adapt to a vessel’s piping system requirements. This new compact, close-coupled gearbox/firefighting pump combination promises substantial savings during installation while also delivering extra space in the engine room.
