A solid reputation for dredgers

Dutch dredger designer, Holland Dredge Design, is a relatively new kid on the block, having been about for only two years, but it has a solid reputation having been built on the foundation of dredger system supplier, Bagema.

Holland Dredge Design has developed a programme of suction and air-lift dredgers along with booster stations and soil pressure systems designed for modular construction

It wants to help its clients determine the most suitable type of dredging equipment and it works closely with subcontractors which it says helps to keep the build cost down.

Jan Bosman told Maritime Journal: “We are a very small company but we have a lot of experience in the dredging sector and have been working in this market for 60 years.”

Mr Bosman explained that the great advantage of working directly with subcontractors is the fact that the costs of building a dredger will be considerably lower due to the fact that the gross margin is much lower. Also, customers buy directly from the company’s suppliers.

More recently, the firm has delivered a CSD 350 for Van der Meulen of Woudsend, working in partnership with MBG Systems for the electric systems, navigation and automation, Pasman Motoren for the supply and assembly of the diesel engines and Gozuyilmax Engineering with regards to the marine engineering requirement.

Holland Dredge Design has developed its own portfolio of suction and air-lift dredgers along with booster stations and soil pressure systems designed for modular construction. With this modular system, different configurations can be realised generating flexibility and cost savings for the operator.

Dredgers can also be equipped with a choice of drives – direct diesel, diesel/electric of fully electric, driven by energy from the shore.

The company’s pump portfolio comprises high and low pressure pumps for sand and gravel with quantity capacities from 750 up to 6,500m3/h.

Holland Dredge Design offers a full design and build package for a newbuild dredger, but it also offers the possibility of restoring and adapting older suction dredgers. For example, the conversion of a diesel drive to diesel/electric.
