Boskalis takes up residency at RAKMC
The Phoenix 1 is now berthed at the new Boskalis jetty at RAK Maritime City, Ras Al Khaimah’s latest maritime industrial free zone.
The vessel arrived on the semi- submersible heavy load carrier Xiang Yun Kou during the summer.
Phoenix 1 is a heavy-duty, rock cutting, stationary dredger measuring 132.3m LOA and weighing in at 4,347 grt. It will operate in coastal waters up to 30 miles offshore and can dredge up to a depth of 31.5m.
Royal Boskalis Westminster NV is the latest major client at RAK Maritime City Free Zone, having leased 75,000 sq/m of waterfront land, including an exclusive 200m private jetty. The company has been involved with many reclamation projects for industry and housing in the Arabian Gulf. Major projects include West Bay in Qatar, Lulu Island in Abu Dhabi and more recently, residential and tourist development for the Palm Island in Dubai and for Amwaj Island and Durrat in Bahrain.
RAK Maritime City occupies an area of eight million square metres, includes a harbour basin of 820,000 sq/m with 5 km of new quaywall, providing tenants with private and exclusive use jetties.
