Boskalis wins Russian port project

Dutch dredging giant Boskalis has won the contract for construction of the Bronka Port in St Petersburg, Russia.

Boskalis will deploy trailer suction hopper dredgers for the €25m project

The contract was signed last month at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in the presence of the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mr. Mark Rutte.

The project involves the reclamation of land for the construction of the new port facility, to be called Bronka, in St Petersburg. A total volume of up to 3 million cubic metres sand will be dredged and reclaimed using trailer suction hopper dredgers to create approximately 85 hectares of new terminal area. The contract value is approximately €25m and the project is expected to be completed in 2013.

Boskalis’ strategy is aimed at benefitting from key macro-economic factors which drive worldwide demand in its markets, including expansion of the global economy, an increase in energy consumption, global population growth and the challenges that go hand in hand with climate change. This project is driven by increasing global trade.

With a versatile fleet of over 1,100 vessels, Boskalis operates in some 75 countries across six continents.
