Morgan Offshore Wind Project approved
A major windfarm development project in the Irish Sea has been granted development consent, marking a major milestone for the UK offshore renewables market.
The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero confirmed approval for the Morgan Offshore Wind Project, a joint venture between JERA Nex bp and Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW), which will deliver an estimated 1500MW capacity on completion.
This project, part of the Round 4 Offshore Wind Licensing Arrangements, represents one of the UK’s most significant steps so far towards meeting its renewable energy targets.
Comprehensive review
The application, submitted by Morgan Offshore Wind Limited in April 2024 and accepted for examination in May 2024, underwent a comprehensive review during the consent process.
Public, statutory consultees and interested parties were invited contribute evidence over a six-month examination period and then recommendations were presented to the Secretary of State on 29 May 2025.
This approval marks the 97th energy application to be completed under the Planning Act 2008.
The decision highlights the growing momentum in offshore renewables in the UK, with the Morgan project set to play a critical role in decarbonising energy supply going forward.
