Polish offshore wind project agrees installation contract

The Norway-based jack-up vessel owner says it will mobilise one of its three purpose-built installation vessels to work on the Baltica 2 offshore wind site in the spring of 2027.

Baltica 2 is one of the largest offshore wind projects, none of which has yet begun generating power, in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright says the first wave of offshore wind projects is in the late stage of development and pre-construction, with operations likely to begin in 2026 at the earliest.

Poland has a target of 5.9GW of installed capacity by 2030, and up to 11GW by 2040. Baltica 2 will conttribute 1.5 GW of this target, supplying energy to 2.4 million households in Poland.

Fred Olsen Windcarrier has three jack-ups in its fleet today, namely Brave Tern, Blue Tern and Bold Tern. A fourth, Blue Wind, is in build and will head for the APAC region, Fred Olsen says. It has not confirmed which of the vessels will be used for Baltica 2.
