13-year Finnish bathymetric agreement

The Finnish Transport Agency Liikennevirasto (FTA) in Helsinki, which is responsible for Hydrography in Finland, has appointed Teledyne Caris for provision of a new bathymetric data management system as part of a continuous 13-year support agreement.

Officials say it will form a fundamental part of FTA’s infrastructure for management of existing bathymetry including supervision and validation of incoming bathymetric surveys provided by external contractors.

The arrangement will involve deployment of software as well as migration of existing bathymetric datasets while also providing new optimised workflows. Caris software will be integrated with existing FTA systems covering chart production and external data sources housed in third-party GIS databases.

It will also provide the organisation with secure synchronisation between on and offline sectors of its management system using Caris’s trademark Bathy DataBase (BDB) system for which training was due to commence at the beginning of this year.
