€3.6m Norwegian Hydrographic Service Contract for Fugro

Fugro OSAE of Bremen, Germany, has been awarded a €3.6m contract by the Norwegian Hydrographic Service for surveys over an area of 13,200 square km in the Barents and Norwegian Seas.

The contract forms part of the governmental Mareano Project covering studies of seabed conditions and biodiversity along northern coastal regions.

An additional contract option allows for an extension of the survey area by as much as two thirds.

The area in the Barents Sea is located at the northern-most part of Norway near the Russian border, in depths between 150 and 200m. Concurrently the Norwegian Sea survey area is approximately 100 miles offshore with depths of between 400 and 800m. Both sectors are adjacent to an area previously surveyed by Fugro from 2011 to 13.

Processing of data will be carried aboard the survey vessel and at Fugro OSAE’s dedicated processing centre in Bremen. The company has conducted similar surveys as part of the Mareano Project for the past seven years in addition to acquiring high-resolution bathymetric data for Norwegian electronic nautical charting (ENC) operations. It recently acquired Fugro Helmert, a newly-built 41.5m multi-purpose research vessel for offshore operations.
