ABP Humber orders new catamaran

Blyth Workcats announced at last month’s Seawork International event it has been commissioned by UK port operator ABP Humber to design a new 14-metre purpose-designed catamaran for surveys of the Rivers Humber, Ouse and Trent covering the ports of Hull, Goole, Grimsby and Immingham which collectively handle a quarter of the UK’s annual seatrade.

Design concept for Blyth Workcats’ new 14-metre survey catamaran which is due to be delivered to ABP Humber next March

Stuart Davidsen, the Canvey Island company’s Design Manager, says the vessel will be similar in size and scope to the custom-built Proteus delivered last year to Osiris Projects (now Bibby HydroMap).

With two survey desks and accommodation for six surveyors together with a full complement of equipment, it will also be fitted with a hydraulic A-frame for deployment of survey facilities, a P500L deck crane, a moon pool and an electric multibeam sonar deployment carriage. Main operational features include a range of up to 60 miles from a safe haven and a maximum speed of 25 knots. Delivery is scheduled for next March.
