Mapping datasets go global
Hampshire UK based data management and publishing specialists OceanWise have established off the shelf marine mapping datasets claimed to meet the most demanding applications.
They include raster charts and marine themes among products already widely used in the UK and Ireland by central and local government departments, NGOs and commercial sectors.
Sets are now available globally via established UK digital mapping distributors FIND Mapping and empasite.com as well as from local in-country agents. Data is provided for immediate download in open GIS formats under licence or as subscription based web mapping and feature services. Availability of sets, according to OceanWise’s MD, Dr Mike Osborne, follows a portfolio of agreements with numerous Hydrographic Offices worldwide.
Meanwhile, OceanWise reports successful completion of the first phase of a maritime information infrastructure on behalf of Clydeport, gateway to Scotland’s industrial heartland. The area comprises port facilities at Glasgow, Greenock, Hunterston and Ardrossan. The project concerns improvement of data and information management within the controlling authority’s Hydrographic & Dredging Department, a venture which has already led to tangible benefits, say port officials.
