New Hemisphere GPS compass developments
Two new ruggedised GPS compass systems from Hemisphere GPS, Vector VS330 and Vector VS131, are claimed to be directly compatible with most leading hydrographic and sidescan survey packages.
Both provide precision heading, position, heave and attitude data for hydrographic and bathymetric survey as well as dredging, oil platform and buoy positioning applications.
The Canadian company’s flagship receiver, the VS330, computes heading information to better than 0.01° accuracy when using a 10m antenna separation. Positioning accuracy is better than one centimetre in RTK mode or four centimetres using OmniStar HP corrections while five centimetre RTK heave and 0.01° pitch and roll accuracies are also attainable. Combining Hemisphere’s Vector and LX-2 receivers with two separate antennas, the VS131 model computes heading information to better than 0.03° accuracy when using a 5m antenna separation and better than 50cm positional accuracy using L-band, SBAS, or beacon corrections.
Both systems are available from Hemisphere GPS’s main European distributors, Saderet on the Isle of Man.
