Adaptable to any vessel and with wireless data transfer, it basically comprises a pole mounted 200 kHz echosounder and Trimble 12 channel GPS receiver together with options for a coast guard beacon receiver, PC data acquisition, digital bar check and a tide gauge. The floatable waterproof sounder has a beam width of 9 degrees and a depth rating of 75-100m. Total weight of a typical complete assembly is just 11 pounds. Comparable minimalist exhibits on show from Ohmex included the company’s SonarMite echosounder for shallow water surveying, which features active transducer technology for digital signal generation, data processing and filtering. Company director Ted Read said similar use of wireless technology enables the system to be fully waterproof and usable in hostile environments while more sensitive computer features can be located over distances up to 50m away. Associated SonaVista software is available for a wide range of devices from pocket PCs to standard desktop Windows type systems.
