Rijkswaterstaat orders inland water multibeam systems
IGA, the specialist department of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure & Environment’s Rijkswaterstaat organisation responsible for surveying 5472 km of inland waterways throughout the Netherlands, has commissioned five Kongsberg Maritime EM 2040C high-resolution shallow water multibeam systems as the mainstay for future operations aboard its fleet of vessels.
Under the contract, which also entails long-term maintenance and management arrangements to be carried out by Kongsberg from its regional office in Spijkenisse, there is an additional option for supply of a further 5-6 similar compact systems over the next ten years.
Specifically designed for operation aboard small boats and launches and therefore considered to be ideal for surveying an estimated 2137 km of subsidiary Dutch canals and rivers, the dual head and dual swath EM 2040C systems feature a wide frequency range of between 200 and 400 kHz with selection in steps of 10 kHz. Apart from inland waterway operations other applications typically include port, harbour and post-dredging surveys, shipwreck exploration, habitat mapping and pipeline inspection. Maximum depth range is 490m.
