Scottish merger heads for expansion

ROV and survey specialists Specialist Subsea Services (S3) of Aberdeen plan a major expansion of activities in the UK as well as in the Mediterranean and West Africa following acquisition of Caledonian Geotech, the Dundee company engaged in a wide range of hydrographic, geographic, geological and oceanographic activities for onshore and nearshore applications.

Graham Kidd, S3’s managing director, said the acquisition provides an ideal complement to his company’s own offshore operations covering depths down to 3,000m. With clients drawn from the civil and petroleum engineering industries and an extensive track record spanning 30 years, Caledonian Geotech will continue to maintain its multi-disciplinary team for a wide range of activities extending from coastal stability assessments and inspection of subsea assets and installations to environmental surveys and project consultancy.

The Dundee firm’s fleet of shallow draught vessels includes a 20m ex-pilot cutter converted for survey and inshore ROV operations in addition to smaller craft for shallow water work in confined seaways. The company also has access to a larger 30m catamaran for 24 hour hydrographic surveys and other services as part of a close working relationship with the Marine Institute of Gdansk in Poland.
