Seabed digital elevation model launched
Marine environmental data management and publishing specialists OceanWise of Hampshire UK have launched a series of off the shelf marine mapping datasets claimed to meet the most demanding applications.
They include raster charts and a highly rated vector dataset, Marine Themes. Both are available online for immediate download from established digital mapping suppliers, Emapsite.com and Find Mapping.
To accompany the datasets, OceanWise says it has created Marine Themes DEM, a seabed digital elevation model at 1 and 6 arc seconds utilising single and multibeam data from the UK Hydrographic Office and other agencies. Data derived from Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) is used to provide additional coverage. Among claimed advantages are modeling of survey data to ensure an accurate and seamless surface of a seabed supported by an online maintenance schedule to ensure the very latest survey data is incorporated.
Access to sounding data used in the DEM creation is also possible, while a GIS compatible data file showing all available surveys is available on request.
