Suitcase surveying

Among novel developments featured on Del Norte Technology’s stand at Seawork International was a fully-laden suitcase-type container providing claimed all-in-one hydrographic solutions with a multitude of functions, GeoSonic.

Developed by CT Systems in Holland, the fully ruggedised, waterproof encasing houses an internal Intel PC with a 15-inch LCD touchscreen and a watertight keyboard and pointer, a survey grade DGPS together with associated connection, power and software facilities. Internal RTK GPS, GPS compass, UHF transceiver and specialist router systems are among a variety of options along with a number of interfacing and sensor choices.

Based on a combination of CT Systems’ GeoDredge hardware and Viking Survey software and depending on connected sensors, Geosoft can function as a dual frequency echosounder, a portable sidescan device or as a magnetometer survey system. Julian van der Vaart, the Dutch company’s Managing Director, anticipates widespread trials throughout Europe over coming months with Del Norte assuming responsibility for arranging those in the UK and Ireland.
