Tidal monitoring system for Arabian Gulf
In a project carried out in association with Seatronics’ regional hub in Abu Dhabi, marine data management and GIS specialists OceanWise of Hampshire have completed the first phase of a new Port-Log Tidal Monitoring and Display System (TMDS) project on behalf of the UAE mapping and survey organisation, Bayanat.
The system receives input from 18 existing tidal monitoring stations in the Arabian Gulf operated by Bayanat for the UAE’s Department of Transport. The stations comprise a number of Valeport Tidemaster and VRS20 radar gauges in addition to some older acoustic gauges which will be upgraded in due course. The complete assembly checks and decodes incoming data from the stations and then applies QA/QC, calibrations and datum offsets before finally making it available to users to view and download via a secure online website.
System design, integration and all control, database and publishing hardware and software has been provided by OceanWise while Seatronics contributed local hardware and on-line support. The two companies recently concluded a collaborative agreement for worldwide distribution of OceanWise’s oceanographic software and services.
